Why not stars
The 4.41 App Store rating (3,197 ratings on 13.09.2026) is the only figure we can quote with a source, and it refers to the app with restricted mode, not the site. Everything else is opinion that depends on which model a person connected and in which year they wrote. Below is what follows from official announcements and public data.
Eight sides of the experience
A platform, not a single character
User bots, public chats, forks, personas, analytics for authors — in tools for role-players Janitor leads the niche.
The base version is free and stays free
The service publicly promised not to cut the free version for the sake of the subscription. Minus: unpublished limits and a queue at peak hours.
A public newsroom
Dated announcements, a changelog, engineering posts; warnings about fakes. But no company address or registration details.
Freedom of choice — at your own expense
JanitorLLM for free, Router and your own key for money on top of the subscription. Flexible, but costly and complex for a newcomer.
Official, but filtered
A real app from Janitor AI Inc with a good rating. Restricted mode by default and fakes nearby in the store lower the score.
A construction kit, not a product
An account, a persona, a model, content mode on another device, optionally an API key. The first ten minutes are about setup, not conversation.
Light filter on the site, strict in the app
Adult role-play is part of the site; on mobile strict mode by default and age checks in three countries.
No voice, photos or video
On no plan; named as plans without a date. For the “companion with a face and a voice” scenario this is a disqualifying minus.
How to read Janitor reviews
- “The bot is dumb / repeats itself” — ask which model. JanitorLLM and a third-party model via key are two different services.
- “The proxy died” — that is not about Janitor but about someone else's key.
- “There are no bots in the app” — restricted mode; switched off on the site.
- “I pay $12.99 and still get a queue” — check whether the “priority” feature is active and the app updated.
Three questions before you stay
Are you fine with a text-only format without voice and photos. Are you ready to configure a model, a persona and content mode yourself. And do you want to pay for a model separately — by key or Router credits — on top of $12.99.
The case for Janitor AI
The best venue for those who love role-play as a genre: community, tools, a free base. If you write bots — this is your place.
The case for HoneyChat
If you need a conversation partner rather than a hobby: no setup, with voice, photos and video in Telegram. Checked for free in a minute.
